Dissecting Wingman’s F Up My Life Music Video

The music video, F Up My Life, starts with a laid-back but actionable sound vibe, with Wingman seen pressing his phone while coherently mumbling the song’s opening and general hook, “I get hyped when I’m in the mood.” The vocals are unmistakably clear and relatable from a fan’s point of view. The mood it conveys present the feeling that Wingman is in his element, which you can also tell from the direction of the lyrics. It’s always refreshing to see a new artist nail their musical aesthetical direction.

What indeed draws attention to this video is the sound and excellent storytelling. The song is an infusion of pop, electronic, and new-age rapping flows that make for a solid 21st-century production with a 20th-century touch of a masterpiece. The postulation that intertwines the rap burst after the opening hook makes the singer’s style energetic and contagious. The content pumps out with a lot of fire—from start to finish—no dulling moments. Somehow, he reminds me of T-pain, though in a different angle.

The song’s lyrics drive home its positive message that is one of encouragement to all those who are at the crossroads of following their instincts and listening to their heart when situations are tensed. Much of the video was recorded in a studio, stage-like setting, which showcases Wingman’s dynamic stage performance ability.

Diving from a plane into the studio signifies Wingman’s commitment to pursue something that he so much cherishes, no matter the odds. His desire and perseverance to thrive and hit his purpose stronger and better despite the pandemic are evident in the lyrics. His skills as a real-life pilot are once again visible on this track—jumping off the plane into the studio—but it’s the fact that he can fuse different sounds to create a unique style that makes him authentic. The neon lights in most parts of the video and the casual setting further give the video a touch of originality. But once again, the beat and solid pop and rap tempo flow is what hooks the fans to his music. And boy, what about that guitar solo show at the tail end of the video? That was extraordinarily forceful and complementary to the entire synth—what a way to end a great music video by a very dynamic and hard-hitting show of cutting-edge skill.

The F Up My Life music video is now available on YouTube and has since garnered many reviews and likes in the thousands.
