YBH JAyyR’s newly launched EP is just around the corner, and it has one of the best and most enjoyable raps with lyrics that everyone can relate to.
The songs on the album “Believe in me” have a refreshing vibe, making you want to dance your heart out. But at the same time, the lyrics hit really deep. We loved almost every song on the new EP because of the feelings invoked through them.
The album was released on 15 October 2021, and the song “Fed up” is a true show stopper! The song talks about a lover who knows his partner is fed up with him and, in doing so, relays the emotions and desires of an utterly relatable experience.
If you don’t know much about this emerging and super talented singer and rapper, we’ve collected a few details for you.
YBH JayyR is a highly creative and ambitious rapper who is determined to develop his artistry as much as he can. He also fuses the hip-hop style “Jester” to invoke uniqueness and interest.
But the real question is; how did it all start for YBH JayyR?
He was born Coy Dean Jr. to Richmond-based parents who frequently practiced music, a rich part of the family’s tradition.
However, when YBH JayyR was a toddler, his family moved from Richmond to settle in Charlotte, North Carolina.
His father had a profound love for music and would often go to music studios, taking YBH JayyR with him, where he developed both his interest and taste. He began to understand the basics of music and slowly started making music of his own.
The young rapper is inspired by a variety of artists like Michael Jackson, Young Thug, and Chris Brown. He adores their music, and thus, it plays a distinct role in his development and motivation.
For a long time now, JayyR has been working on strengthening his talent as an artist. He has a highly creative vision and is keen to develop his own unique style in music to gain recognition.
In short, YBH JayyR aims to inspire his fans with his music and make his parents proud (which he is doing successfully)!

1.) What elements and/or characteristics made you say to yourself that you wanted to do music for a living? Who are your influences/heroes/role models?
So I wanted to do music since I was a little boy; I will say around age 7. But I did not take music seriously till I was in the 8th grade. My brothers and my homeboys always did music so I was surrounded by music. But I never hopped on the mic, because I was always a shy person. But one day my brother was writing a song and he was like JayyR hop on this. At first I was a little skeptical about it. But later on I built up courage and got on it. They thought it was so fire and it all started there. I would like to say I have a lot of people who influenced me but my top are Chris Brown, Young Thug, NBA Youngboy, Drake, Lil Keed, and more.
2.) If you could compare yourself to an already established artist, who would that be and why? If you don’t like to compare yourself, then music-wise, what separates you from other musicians?
So I don’t like comparing myself with other artists because I feel we all have are own taste in our music mixed with a little influence from our favorite artists. But if I had to pick I will say Young Thug. I really do enjoy his work and he is just an absolute genius.
3.) Everyone in life goes through adversity of some sort. Is there anything in your life that has any influence on the kind of songs you write? What is the most difficult thing you’ve had to endure on your path to becoming a musician?
Yeah of course, with everything in life it’s going to have obstacles that you will have to overcome to open the next door. Mine was being young growing up in the projects of Brooklyn, NY; “Pink houses” to be exact and trying to find a way out. Just for a better living for my family. The most difficult part I’ve endured was trying to keep my sanity. When I felt like no one else understood me or the vision I had. It made me start to question myself, like am I wrong or do they not understand me.
4.) How do you prepare yourself to write certain songs? What is your song-writing and recording process?
I will say the beat prepares me for writing the song. It’s like the beat speaks to you and you just talk back. So a lot of times I don’t even write, I just get to the mic and record.
5.) Unfortunately the music industry is full of talented individuals who just don’t get any recognition for their talent and/or hard work. What do you plan to do to make sure you stand out and get noticed? Would you rather be on a major label or would you rather stay independent? Why or why not? In regards to the music industry itself, do you think that the traditional music industry model as we know it is dead?
Definitely got to stay consistent and connected. Be yourself and trust the process. Just don’t give up on yourself and it’s going to happen.
6.) Are you able to make a living with your music? If so, how were you able to attain a career doing what you love? If not, what do you do in order to fund your music career? What advice would give to someone who’s interested in pursuing a career in music?
With this music, you have to be willing to sacrifice a whole lot and not just money-wise. When I first started I would go to work and each check I got from my 9-5 I would take a percentage out of it and buy what I needed. One week I would buy a microphone, the next week I would buy some promo and so on and so on. But you have to be willing to give up something for it.
7.) How do you think the internet and social media affected the music industry and how musicians are able to market themselves? Social media is obviously an extremely important element in today’s world, especially when it comes to business, branding, marketing, etc. With that being said, do you think an artist will be able to survive in today’s music industry if they’re not social media savvy?
I think the internet plays a BIG BIG part in the music industry. We are in the 21st century, if you are not on social media promoting and marketing your music then what are you doing. That simple!!!
8.) Artists who try to make music for the general public and make more money are usually seen as “sell-outs.” Do you see it that way and if so, what do you plan to do to make sure your music stays true to your brand and make a good living at the same time without having to “sell out”?
Just be yourself and enjoy your journey.
9.) Professionally, where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
At a different door ready to kick it down!!!!
