Do you remember Smokie Robinson and his rock band? Well, there is something about rock music, especially the metals, that makes you want to see every bit of them as they come. For me, apart from hip-pop, the rock genre is the next thing in music that will surely keep you from boredom.

So, when I got the chance to review the latest rock EP in town, from Gemtarra, I didn’t hesitate cause, I trust that the rock sound will never disappoint.

Now, who are these guys? Surprisingly, it turns out to be ladies, not guys.

A ladies rock band? Yeah, ladies in rock—something that sounds promising.

Who is Gemtarra?

Gemtarra is a rock band formed by twin sisters—Gina and Tina Cieri. The band was formed in 2018 and is based in Philadelphia. Gemtarra formally goes by the name “Prima Donna,” and used to be a trio. Under that formal name, the band gained lots of attraction, and some of their releases were ranked among the best ten music lists on many college radio stations. Today, Gina and her sister, Tina Cieri, songwriter and guitarist respectively, are joined by other members such as Sunny Dee (drums), Bryan Feddish (bass), Tawana Simons (percussion), and Megan Glaubitz (lead singer).

Fired Up is Gemtarra’s first-ever EP, and it promises to be something worth listening to.

Below is a review of the EP track by track.

A Track-by-Track Review of Gemtarra’s Fired Up EP

1.)             Jealous Heart

Gemtarra starts the EP with “Jealous Heart,” which happens to be one of the band’s single that launches them to stardom. As expected, the beat on this one is purely energetic. The vocals are merciless, carrying the sound of a wrecking ball—a snarling wildcat rendition of a superb song.

While the female vocalist that announced, “I’ve got a jealous heart” resonate well with the cutthroat lead guitars and bass tonality, appeal to a traditional rock sound, they did it with such a remarkable and huge style that you can’t help but get sucked in like a hapless hungry fish.

The song carries a rapid flow with blistering attack that equally sooths and savages as it switches between clear vocals and rugged background hard instrumentals, as the band gives their all, ripping into the tone with incredible dexterity and determination.

With “Jealous Heart,” you can tell that Gemtarra have the potential to be gracing some famous and notable stages in the near future.

2.)         Madness

Honest to God, from the moment this song starts playing, I fell in love with it right away.

“Madness” sees the blessed twin sisters delivering superb rich and commanding vocals devoid of any apology. While the beat and tempo flow are more relaxed, compared to the first track, the atmosphere of the song is unmistakably commanding, endearing and selfishly engaging. This song ejects increasing intrigues and powerful weight to the entire EP mix. What a song! It is certainly worth its place as one of the best rock songs, an emotional declaration and commitment to thrive and survive in spite of all the madness and sadness that comes with life.

To me, it’s only a loner that won’t like this song. The vocal performance on this one was far better than the first. In an ideal world, “Madness” should be sitting on or closer to the top of the charts.

3.)         In Your Own World

“In Your Own World” is a song that highlights the dazzling quality and sheer beauty of Gemtarra’s writing prowess. The beat on this one is, even more, slower than the immediate track, but with more calculative percussion and electric sound renditions that cleverly matches the somehow psychedelic lyrics and clear vocals that seeks to call someone from a secluded world into a world of reality.

While “In Your Own World” doesn’t carry that touch of typical rock, it, however, delivers that forthright and seductive taste for the one that is to come.

4.)         Fire Me Up

Now, from start to finish, “Fire Me Up” is the hook track that defines Gemtarra’s alternative rock sound. It is the song that makes the band one of the most prominent demographic rising rock talents in the industry.

“Fire Me Up” is a song that flows on the back of breathable vocals that you can sing along as it plays. The upbeat and vibe are both bright and catchy. While the entire production has that earthy, raw touch, the rendition is uncomplicated and neat.

The twins and the band wrapped up this song in a well-orchestrated manner, making it a perfect rock ‘n’ roll gift with no room for time and space wastage.

The atmosphere on “Fire Me Up” is electrifying. Listeners immediately get hooked on the pouty-lipped endearing rock guitars, captivating lively vocals, and tons of distortions and reverbs. While the lyrics appear messy occasionally, the band benefited from the reassuring range and resonant voice control of Megan, the lead vocalist, whose perfectly pitched high notes make this song dope. The backups and harmonies were also very professional in this song.

The summery, bright, and sensibility-alluring glaze of alternative sound rock hammered home by fiery solo and undiluted guitar strums ensures that “Fire Me Up” gets the listeners hooked into the entire rock sound groove.

If you are searching for a new and raw talent that would lead you back to the good old days of rock, consider following Gemtarra. This band is the bomb waiting to explode—and already exploding bit by bit. Don’t miss the impact!
