The Album That Keeps Running Under My Skin
There is something unique about Katrina Stuart’s version of pop, R&B interwoven sound-ship of excellence that aptly distinguished her from others.
No, it isn’t just the sound nor the song type she writes, which, though cleverly put together, are just within the general nuances of the genre, especially coming from someone who wants to hit mainstream success.
What set Katrina style apart from the rest is something that is surprisingly less tangible—something unique about her personality, her vibe, approach, ethics, and lyrical wizardry, which are far more important than the technical and general nature of the songs. Unfortunately, these qualities are missing from most other pop singers in the industry today.
Just take a good look around you. How many pop songs are devoid of explicitly adult, corrupt and foul languages? It is sex or dick, pussy, breasts and what have you, filthy words that you’ll find on most of the pop songs that are sadly making the top charts in the country.
But, here is an entire album that is completely free of all such nonsense, with lyrics blazing reality and true-life experiences. The authenticity of Katrina’s Under My Skin album is both formidable and undisputable.
If “Hurricane Katrina” was a pop singer, I would love to welcome her for a second time into my “Florida’s heart” to wreak fresh havoc every night.
Katrina Stuart is the dynamic pop hurricane that I love to have under my skin each night the stars set up in the sky in the downsides of West Africa.
Who is Katrina Stuart?
Katrina Stuart is a Canadian-born singer, dancer and performer. She is currently residing in Los Angeles, California. Katrina started her musical career when she was just 4 years old. With time, she started harnessing her skills and developing herself by participating in different musical events such as talent shows, school and church performances, and other events. Katrina is also a model and actor who has appeared in short films, commercials, and TV shows.
Under My Skin is Katrina’s first album. Below is a detailed review of what the album holds for listeners.
Under My Skin Track by Track Review
1.) Dinner
Now, I’m always connected with songs that talk about a personal experience, especially one on an emotional scale, and this opening track kills it.
Dinner is a song that reflects on a real-life experience that characterizes most relationships, particularly from the angle of women. Katrina talks about how she used to enjoy a blossoming relationship with her man, someone who was never tired to take her out for a dinner (keeping her happy all the time). But, then, for no just cause, everything just stopped and her happiness got lost. The said man simply decides to break the woman’s heart, refraining from their first love.
This is exactly what many women are experiencing in their relationships. Just when you think you’ve found the ideal man, you end up being disappointed. With words like “my boy so sweet treats me like a queen…But that was all before…he doesn’t do it anymore..,” you can tell when a woman is heart-broken. How many ladies out there aren’t in pains these days?
A song with great beats but lack meaningful lyrics is no song. Dinner truly beat my expectations. The lyrics were connective, and millions of women out there would easily connect to this track.
Now, Katrina also proved that she has superb sultry vocals that excel in a lavish rendition of precise bounce and attractive attitude throughout the song. The vibes that exude from the performance are unapologetic, and the songwriting skill is edgy, with crisp and clear vocals that people can easily sing along with.
What a way to open an album!
2.) This Us
Here, Katrina is stepping up the tempo flow from the opening track, Dinner, by delivering a vivid and compelling performance on “This Us.” I love the catchy hook that she uses to capture listeners’ attention without an iota of hesitation.
This track runs along with superb upbeat vibes and melodies that perfectly blend with Katrina’s rich and alluring voice. Once again, Katrina takes her fans on a memorable journey, full of powerful questions and thoughtful musings. The track is another wonderful one that reflects on events people, in general, have experienced at one point in life.
3.) Fly Away
Katrina comes blazing from all her disappointment with an ironic twist to this one, declaring that “Like a bird, I’m fly away..never gonna see me again.” Here, Katrina has vowed that nothing is ever gonna be under her skin, leaving the fake love behind and never looking back as she flies away from delusion to reality. How many of us out there are still knowingly living a lie, helping to manage a relationship that would never work out?
Katrina’s voice on this song was ruthless and commanding with perfect pitch and sound tonality. The lyrics are moving and are highly inspiring. I love this song as well.
4.) Numb
“Do you feel what I feel,” is the question that greets you from these soulful vibe songs. I love the fact that Katrina cleverly mixed up some Pop and R&B elements while bearing its alternative edge. Her vocal performance on Numb was ultimately effortless and the scope was far-reaching as she takes fans into a small part of her world.
Surely, this girl can sing.
5.) Love Shaped
Love Shaped is a typical pop song with solid ethereal vibes you can feel all through Katrina’s performance. The track is litty and it incorporates lots of groove and bounce. Katrina’s voice was soft and strong at the same time, cleverly slaying the lyrics as she lyrically paints a picture of how love defines and shape one’s heart.
6.) Attraction
Of course, when someone is your “favorite distraction,” nothing stops you from “loving the attraction.” This lady is a lyrical queen. You don’t always find such easily connectable lyrics in the pop genre. The chorus is highly catchy, and it displays its distinct personality in a slow tempo flow. Katrina’s vocals on this song were powerful, with dynamic energy. The song itself has an uplifting ambiance, making it a worthwhile addition to your playlist.
7.) Gone
Gone is one of the best pop songs I have heard for quite some time. This song is one of the major highlights that define the quality of the Under My Skin album. The song carries that balladry feel, which effectively alters the album’s temperature. It is an emotional piece of artistic excellence that displays Katrina Stuart’s ability to perform in multiple styles.
8.) Vampire
It’s hard picking the best song on this album, but Vampire is one of the dopiest of them all. Katrina’s lyrical postulation is so real and endearing in so much that one cannot help but play the song repeatedly.
The Vampire is a song that pictures Katrina’s hatred and stance on deception as she sings “You say you will take me higher. But you just kill my fire.” She accuses her deceptive partner of being a bloodsucker. Sadly, this is so true in many relationships today where men uses and dump ladies like shits.
And as the track rises in catchy lyrical lines and stanzas, the Los Angeles-bred pop star rose with a fierce reprimand and slammed the door of her life shot against all her detractors while leaving the karma sled hammer to take care of the rest, amidst superior in-line beats and powerful voice flow.
This track deserves a Grammy nomination.
9.) Blue Roses
Blue Roses is one of the most addictive and pop-based songs in the album. The song has a delicate vibe and dance elements couple with shining synths and robust vocal harmonies that gives you a feel of something Rihanna and Miley Cyrus.
Once again, Katrina delivers her rich lyrical rendition in a compelling tone that carries literary personification as she sings “You can take your pretty flowers away.” Of course, real love is more than blue roses, and you can’t mend a broken heart with some flowers, no matter how beautiful they may look. The song conveys the message that on a road full of violated promises and hearts that are hurting, there is no need looking backward.
Hey, baby. Don’t you think it is high time you kick that man and his bunch of useless flowers from your life?
10.) Who She
Katrina rounds up this wonderful “Under My Skin” album with Who She, a song infused with lots of trap and a bit of rap-based lyrics. The song will connect well with many women out there. It is a song where Katrina shares with listeners her unique and diverse abilities as an artist. The beat was intense, and the staccato synths deliver a dance melody theme. What a way to round up a superb album.
From start to finish, this album is miles away from boring. In short, Under My Skin is necessary to have for everyone that loves quality pop music.
