One of the most consistent musical creative, Mojo Mayne, has released his latest musical masterpiece EP “The Renaissance.”

Mojo Mayne is one of the few indie artists around that has been displaying his amazing musical talent for quite some time, creating a diversity of sounds in different genres.

From hip-hop to pop, to rock, to classical and country music, there is no genre that this Iowa-based music star doesn’t flow with. I like him because he has shown to whoever cares to listen to his music that he is not the label-based musician but an artistic one.

The Renaissance At A Glance

“The Renaissance” is an 8-track album that Mojo Mayne released together with his new band, WinkLoveLoss. From what I can grasp from this album, it is one of the most interesting rock/alternative EP with a touch of pop music.

Here is how each track stacks up in the album.

“The Renaissance” Track-by-Track Review

1.)             All This Love

The EP starts with this highly intense, all-action packed song that highlights Mojo Mayne’s rock genre talent. The tempo of the song rises as each second passes, with strong electronic guitar and faint bass vibes characterizing the background play. With lines like “So you say you want to leave me. When you don’t know a thing about me. I can be your worst enemy,” you can tell that Mayne’s vocals are clear and easily relatable. You can also tell that “All This Love” isn’t an entirely new song, as it borrows most of its composition from White Stripes “Seven Nation Army,” recreating a classical feel with reworked lyrics and re-engineered vigor. If you love hard rock and metals, this song is for you.

2.)             Wrapped In Black

“Wrapped In Black” slows down the tempo from the first song, with a soul-felt rendition. Another love song with dwindling instrumentals that brings back loving memories of the ’90s. The vocals are more relaxed and emotional. You can call this a soul song for two partners locked in sinful hugs and embrace while swaying gently.

3.)             Weirdo

This song bears that static and classic rock bravado touch of creativity. The tempo was much faster, compared to the first and second songs. While Mojo Mayne’s vocals were more strain on this one, compared to the previous two, the hard rock pace and melodic vibes make the song a relatable one. Weirdo is the type of song you want to play at a wild party.

4.)             Sexy You

“Sexy You” is another great rock/pop combination attribute of Mojo Mayne. The vocals here are more crisp, clear, and captivating and there is a high intensity to the entire mix up. “The way you look at me it’s so sexy” are some of the hot topic and lustful lyrics that make up the song. It is a typical rock song for the typical rock fan.

5.)             WildFire

“Wild Fire” is one of the songs in the EP that highlights Mojo Mayne’s multi-genre quality as the song stands in the middle of old school gram rock and polished pop. While the beat is highly intense, making it a favorite song for the extremely happy rock fan, the lyrics are not that relatable, no thanks to the strained vocals on this one. To me, it’s a good, dance melodic song but not the easiest lyrics to grasp and sing along.

6.)             Joker

You wouldn’t be wrong if you say “Joker” is the track that steals the main show and takes the EP to its glorious height. The way the beat and sequential vibe was arranged makes this song a great masterpiece.

The flow and instrumental breakpoint when Mojo Mayne exclaimed “…and I say..fuck you,” blend perfectly with the theme of the song, which conveys strong defiance and avowed commitment from the lyrical point of view. The sonic power and lyrical intensity of the song is one of the highlights of the entire EP.

7.)             Hey Baby

“Hey Baby” is another in-between-two-worlds song bearing a classic and rock vibe. The instrumentals are intense, and that guitar reverbs makes the song a wild dancing type for the ardent rock lover. “One time we meet,” is some of the lyrical line rendition that makes this song a lover’s anthem. While it isn’t my kind of music, any rock lover would find it entertaining.

8.)             Watchtower

Mojo Mayne and his WinkLoveLoss band closed this multi-genre EP with “Watchtower”. Another divisive pairing treads a fine line between rock and pop genres, with a bit of classical music touch. “Let me be your watchtower” are some of the catchy lyrics that flow along with the electrifying atmosphere of the song. The heavily layered composition and the clear vocals add substance to the overall rendition. You may need a watchtower to have a clearer view of someone you love and want to hang out with. It’s not a bad song at all.

The Take Home

“The Renaissance” is the EP that reveals Mojo Mayne’s incredible ability to perform in different genres. It is a highly recommended EP for anyone that loves rock and pop alternate music.
