Another super music is in town and it’s coming on the back of a new EP from Oh Well, the Chicago-based progressive EDM project.

The new EP is titled “Insomnia,” a four-track gripping musical piece that explores the lonely world of the sleepless.

But, if you think the EP it’s just all about elusive sleep, think again. “Insomnia” also doubles as an excellent musical dance and theatrical eclecticism. Every song in the EP is tailored to paint a picture of some of the most pressing issues in society with powerful instrumentals and lyrical exemplification.

Below is a track-by-track review of the EP.

Track-By-Track Review of Insomnia EP

1.)         Life is Better Online

Now, the unspoken rule of selling in music is that, if you want to compel your listeners to stay with you until the end, don’t mess up the opening track. Did “Life is Better Online” fulfill this criterion? Of course, it did.

Oh Well kick off the EP with thought-provoking lyrics on this track. Words like “There’s no reason to unplug when life is better online” are examples of the many powerful songwriting skills and captivating lyrical rendition and ambiance phrases that characterize the EP.

This track carries many emotional waves as evident in its dark dubs and light melodies. While the instrumentals are great, EDM is making its mark here that there is more to their songs than just pieces of impressive instrumentals.

What a great opening track.

2.)         Blindfolds Off

“Blindfolds Off” is another track that promises to be entertaining in that it features tidbits from Donald Trump, President of the United States. The elements that make up the song comprises of fantastic instrumentals, scintillating dark distortions and epic synths.

This song uses impeccable sound variations and lyrical repetitions throughout the performance. President Trump was never tired of saying “Sorry” repeatedly in the background as the song progresses with deliberate and calculated songwriting skills.

The sound effects and modern reference style used in the song is something that listeners would find entertaining. “Blindfolds Off” is a highly entertaining rendition with strong defiance language structured to address the post-truth era.

3.)         Insomnia

“Insomnia,” the song for the EP title, brings in the groove with fascinating thought reflective experience for the ardent fans.

Insomnia is Oh Well’s EP theme song that captures the anxiety and frustration of those who struggle to sleep during the night. The track produced a glimpse of hypnotic and well created evocative soundscape that blends well with the entire delivery of the song.

I was particularly impressed by the bass line’s cyclical nature and the tale-telling lyrical rendition that perfectly transmits the underlining theme of the song, richly supported by a beautifully colored melody that rides on a catchy chorus line and interesting hook.

Even the video part of the song is also very captivating; thanks to Oh Well’s use of revolutionary production techniques, which highlights the effects of sleep deprivation and anxiety. The upbeat flow and overall production quality give the song a magnetically enchanting ability to immerse listeners with a chilling experience.

4.)         Moving On

The EP, Insomnia, wraps up with “Moving On,” a slower tempo song with superb artistic production. Here, the performance is more laidback in its approach but maintains a commanding feel. The digital effects on this one are more haunting, supported by distorted elements and dramatic synths.

Oh Well employ pure instrumentals with lovely melodies from the piano to support the catchy lyrics on this song. “I’m moving on, I am giving up…doing everything you are not…” are examples of the classic lyrics with a strong message that the singers delivered on this piece as a superb way to end an equally superb artistic project that many fans would love to add to their favorite playlists.

Oh Well’s Insomnia is currently streaming on Spotify and you don’t want to miss out on this one. Every song on the EP has its original sound. Insomnia is a project the typical urban music-loving fan would love to roll with. Get on with this and stay with eyes wide open on Oh Well’s Insomnia and other upcoming projects.
