1.) What made you want to get into the music business in the first place? Did anyone influence you to do music? If so, who? Influences? Role Models?

The initial love for writing songs is what made me want to do music. Throughout my life, I found myself quitting sports and other frivolous hobbies, but something that always seemed to stick was music! I was always in the band. I was always in musical theater. I was always noodling on my guitar thinking of song concepts and melodies. Music was always there for me. As for influences, I don’t think I had any. I never looked at any one artist and thought “I want to be like him/her”. Although recently, my guilty pleasure has been Vaporwave/ Future Funk, so you could say that I take influence from the “modern” 80’s era.

2.) Unfortunately the music industry is full of talented individuals who just don’t get any recognition for their talent and/or work. What do you plan to do to make sure you stand out and get noticed?
Standing out takes collaboration. Behind every great act is a great team. I plan on building my team to be the best it can, because I’m only as good as the ones who support me.

3.) Would you rather be on a major label or would you rather stay independent? Why or why not?

For me, It doesn’t really matter. Major label or not, as long as I get to do what I love, I’m on board.

4.) Do you think that the traditional music industry model as we know it is dead? Why or why not?

Rather as seeing one part of the music industry as “dying”, I see it as “evolving”.

5.) How do you think the internet and social media affected the music industry and how musicians are able to market themselves?
Access to the internet has changed the music industry around the world, I agree, but there are also avenues for those who are more traditional and prefer to buy CD’s or vinyl. Streaming has become extremely popular, which polarized the industry for sure. For any musician, it’s all about being as accessible as humanly possible, whether it be through social media or the local Wal-Mart.

6.) What is the most difficult thing you’ve had to endure in life and has that had any effect on your path to becoming a musician?

Homelessness. Being homeless was probably the scariest thing for me. On the new single “Alright” Off the Circles EP, I explain my struggle about running away from home at 17 after learning my parents didn’t accept my sexuality. I explain the struggle with child protective services and the impact it had on me as a teen. In the end, it really helped me connect to my music again, in which I’m so grateful for.

7.) Artists who try to make music for the general public and make more money are usually seen as “sell-outs.” Do you see it that way and if so, what do plan to do to make sure you make music that is true to your brand and make a good living at the same time without having to “sell out”?
Music is an incredibly tough industry to break into, so I can understand the concept of selling out. Then again, most people prefer not to think when they listen to music. They either want to relax, or dance, or grieve; whatever it may be. Music is emotional, and people want to hear something that makes them feel an emotion. Sorry, but a six movement masterpiece isn’t going to make it on the top 40 charts. I don’t see myself as a sell out because I do what I enjoy. If I don’t enjoy it, I won’t do it; simple as that.
8.) When you do music, what would you like your listeners to get out of your music?
From listening to music, I want people to learn who I am as a person. As an extreme introvert, I have a hard time expressing myself. As for music, that comes naturally to me; I can tell a story and let the world hear it, and I’ll be satisfied knowing it was a personal piece of me in every lyric.
