We are twin sisters from Sweden who call our duo Golya and we’ve always had a passion for music. We have limited resources but that doesn’t stop us from writing and producing music pretty much all day every day. We categorize ourselves as lyric and melody-driven indiepop and are now in the midst of spreading our music to a wider audience.

1.) What made you want to get into the music business in the first place? Did anyone influence you to do music? If so, who? Influences? Role Models?

We’ve always had a passion for music, it runs in our blood. Our home growing up has always been filled with music and singing, and we’ve been greatly influenced by our older sisters who’ve always been supportive and taught us about music from an early age.

2.) Unfortunately the music industry is full of talented individuals who just don’t get any recognition for their talent and/or work. What do you plan to do to make sure you stand out and get noticed?

We think our strength lies in our lyrics and melodies. We strive to write lyrics and melodies you’ve never heard before. To stand out we plan to make hooks, riffs, lyrics and melodies that captivate the listener and makes them want to hear more.

3.) Would you rather be on a major label or would you rather stay independent? Why or why not?

To be part of a major label would open up many opportunities, but staying independent has its charms. As long as we get to keep writing and producing music with enough creative freedom, we’re happy either way.

4.) Do you think that the traditional music industry model as we know it is dead? Why or why not?

The traditional music industry with album releases and record labels has greatly changed in the last decades, with the growing influence of the internet and social media, as well as many risen opportunities for independent artists to release their music on their own without the help of a major record label.

5.) How do you think the internet and social media affected the music industry and how musicians are able to market themselves?

The internet and social media have been a game-changer in the music industry. To be able to promote yourself to a larger audience makes it easier for independent artists to spread their music. Social media is a great way to gain exposure and we believe you cannot reach mainstream success without a social media presence.

6.) Artists who try to make music for the general public and make more money are usually seen as “sell-outs.” Do you see it that way and if so, what do plan to do to make sure you make music that is true to your brand and make a good living at the same time without having to “sell out”?

To make music that appeals to a larger audience is a talent in itself. If one’s ambition is to make money we see no problem with that, the talent is still there and no one can rule over another artists’ creations. In our case the money could definitely be a positive side-effect, but we’d rather be getting by by the skin of our teeth doing the music we love, than live in mansions through music that’s not us.

7.) When you do music, what would you like your listeners to get out of your music?

This is a tough question, of course we want to be able to create an emotional reaction with our songs, which is why we have a heavy focus on our lyrics. At the same time, a great melody can make anyone happy, which is also an emotional reaction. To put it in fewer words; we just want people to enjoy it.
