6304 is a group from the DMV. The group consist of Josh & Bud T. Josh & Bud T are blood cousins. They are also, former athletes. 6304 represents their grandmother’s street address (Seat Pleasant, MD). Their music consists of real life stories and situations that occur in our community. True independent artist they write, record, mix & master everything on their own.

We have just released our 3rd Mixtape and it happens to be the 3rd tape this year. 6304 have also been able to host their own showcases throughout D.C. This all has been accomplished in the year that 6304 has been formed.
1. When did you all start making music?
  • We started making music as a group in November of 2016. We are pretty new to the music game, but we have covered a lot of ground this past year.

2. What elements and/or characteristics made you say to yourself that you wanted to do music for a living?
  • We have some stories to share with the world. Our style of music is free, outside the box & addictive. Our work ethic is unmatched. Being former athletes we have an infatuation with being the best at what we do.

3. Who are your influences/heroes/role models?
  • Our grandmother is a big influence on who we are and what we do. The reason our group name is 6304 because that was her house number (street address). She passed away last July. The hardest working woman we knew.

4. If you could compare yourself to an already established artist, who would that be and why? If you don’t like to compare yourself, then music-wise, what separates you from other rappers?

  • Musically, what separates us is the fact that we take risk and our work ethic. We don’t conform to the status quo of hip hop music. We make what we feel.

5.) Unfortunately the music industry is full of talented individuals who just don’t get any recognition for their talent and/or work. What do you plan to do to make sure you stand out and get noticed?
  • We plan to get in the face of as many people as possible. That includes performances, radio, blogs, videos. You have to be willing to bet on yourself and that’s exactly what we are doing!

6. How do you prepare yourself to write certain songs?
  • Once the beat chosen, I, Bud T usually write and record a hook. I send it out to Josh and then we go from there. More often than not, we play on past experiences and relationships.

7. What is the most difficult thing you’ve had to endure so far when it comes to getting your music heard?
  • The biggest hurdle is probably how saturated the industry is right now. With it being so easy to put the music out, you have to stand out and be consistent to build your fan base.

8.) Social media is obviously an extremely important element in today’s world, especially when it comes to business, branding, marketing, etc. With that being said, do you think an artist will be able to survive in today’s music industry if they’re not social media savvy?
  • There’s always an exception to the rule, but as an indie artist I don’t think so. Social media engagement is so important to tapping into that fanbase, especially when you don’t have a big machine behind you.

9.) Everyone in life goes through adversity of some sort. Is there anything in your life that has any influence on the kind of songs you write?
  • Most definitely, we lost our grandmother this past July so you’ll hear her impact on us throughout our music. You’ll hear everything from death, hardships, relationship, violence…. you’ll get a little bit of everything in our music.

10.) Professionally, where do you see yourself 5 years from now?
  • Five years from now I see our label taking off (6304 Records) and being able to take on and produce different artist. There’s nothing out there like what we do. We aren’t joining a fad or playing on a generation. What we are making is timeless.
